A demonstration from fifty percent

Solo Exhibition at The Applebee Gallery at the Putnam Center for the Arts in Jacksonville, IL. USA, 2018.

The work presented in “A Demonstration Exposed from Fifty Percent” includes accoutrements that highlight cultural symbols ubiquitous to America while attempting to serve as an allegory of cultural bias and exclusion through their subtle misinterpretations. The title refers to a common slander towards Asian people, “Do you see fifty percent less than I do because your eyes are so small?” The notion of “small” plays an important role in this exhibition, as it symbolizes the subconscious inequalities in presence and power attributed to histories discriminatory rhetoric. The tension between conflict and hope expressed through these works is a reflection of the often confusing experience in this country.
